Fantastic Beasts and the Academy

Today is the 89th Academy Awards, better known as the Oscars (fanfare), where various category winners are awarded an Oscar (Academy Award of Merit) presented from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science (AMPAS). The Wizarding World has yet to win an Oscar, this year Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, has a chance at 2 Oscars. They have a really good shot at winning them, if we have time I’ll bring up some other movies who I hope win. If you want a better review of the movies besides the two nominations check out my review!

Best Costume Design: Colleen Atwood

I briefly mentioned costumes in my review for Fantastic Beasts, and to put it simply, they were phenomenal. Colleen Atwood has already received 3 Oscars; Chicago (2002), Memoirs of a Geisha (2005), and Alice in Wonderland (2010), maybe a fourth today. Mrs. Atwood had a rather difficult job with the movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, not only does she have to make it fit in with the era (Roaring Twenties), but also add a twist for the Witches and Wizards. With a world not yet see before, Mrs. Atwood had a lot to work with. In the end she was able to make costumes which were very flattering for the actors/actresses. Let’s see if her costumes can win her another Oscar.

Best Production Design: Stuart Craig

Colleen Atwood is not the only one with the Oscar nomination, Stuart Craig has been nominated for his sets. He has plenty experience with the Wizarding World, in charge of the production design in all the Harry Potter series. He has won 3 Oscars, unfortunately none have been for his work in Harry Potter. The sets have always captivated me, Fantasic Beasts and Where to Find Them is no exception. Inside Scamander’s Suitcase was by far my favorite, not because of any particular bias. The shed and the habitats for the fantastic beasts was amazing, it was completely different from what I had in mind and I loved it. It was so unique and different that it has to bring Stuart Craig another Oscar.

Sorry if this seemed a lot like a review of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, but with the Academy Awards I’m looking forward for the Wizarding World to receive its first Oscar. With its beautiful sets and costumes I wouldn’t be surprised  if it got two. If you liked it leave a like down below or subscribe! Put down you Oscar favorites in the comment section.
